How We Got Here
Who would have thought swiping right would land us here.
Connecting through music and the enjoyment of each others conversation, we decided to have our first date just before New Years 2020. On the third date, just before Jacky would depart for East London, we realised that we thoroughly enjoyed each other's company.
Three months we were separated, but it flew past quickly. Over the phone we were talking up a storm. Excitement was growing. Soon we would be able to see each other in person again.
COVID hit and lock-down was reality. Separated again, this time by law. A work travel permit saw that Jacky was able to move around. An internet problem saw her sneak into Gert’s flat for work, and she stayed for a week. The isolation of lock-down was the perfect incubator for our growing love.
Fast forward two years, we moved in together and adopted two beautiful black cats. We slowly realised that home is where each other is and the space we inhabit became ours. In this wonderful space the strangest thing happened, two people who did not pay mind to the ideas of marriage, was suddenly attracted to the concept. Long before words and hearts spoke to promise, we opened our thoughts to each other. We were in agreement.
On a bleak rainy day Gert saw only one future that made sense, and that he could not wait for his planned grand romantic gesture. Jacky gladly removed a ring from her hand with which Gert proposed. No glitter and glam, no elegance and show, just two hearts gladly binding with a promise. A promise of safety, comfort, laughter and love.
